Our History

Our History

Skyform Specialist Contracts Ltd are a multi-disciplined company providing access and constructions solutions throughout the UK to various Market Sectors in Scotland and the UK. The Glasgow based company was founded in 1995 as an access provider specialising in the supply and installation of suspended access cradles before expanding into general construction works. Our suspended platforms are hired to main contractors and local authorities for accessing hard to reach areas. All persons operating our access systems are fully trained to the highest standards to ensure safe operation. Our access systems are suitable for carrying out of all types of work such as Concrete/ Structural repairs, Window Installation and Repairs, Roughcasting, and Stone Cleaning. We also assist in carrying out structural surveys and condition surveys of buildings.

Company Background

We have created a strong customer base and have established ourselves as one of the leading providers of cradle access in the UK.

Skyform Specialist Contracts

Skyform (Scotland) Ltd mainly acted as sub-contractor until 2005 until the formation of Skyform Specialist Contracts Division. The formation of this division allowed us to tender for the type of projects which our access systems were being utilised for. The Specialist Construction Division is now the main contractor on the majority of its projects.

Skyform Specialist Contracts Division was introduced with the intention of offering our customers a unique service which reduces the number of sub-contractors on any particular site. This in turn enables us to offer competitive rates, a reduction in the amount of correspondence for clients, and a greater control of services in the work site. We have an excellent Health and Safety record and we like to think that this is a direct result of our positive approach to Health and Safety matters. All of our operatives are fully trained in the use of the access systems, working at height as well as being specialist in their own trades.

In 2006 we purchased new premises in Aberdeen and have employed and developed an experienced and capable team of operatives to our Specialist Division. Our advantage in Aberdeen is providing local labour which allows an increased level of customer service; unlike our competitors in this area.

Skyform are now working on large scale projects which often encompass various work scopes, the majority of these work scopes we can now manage and successfully deliver in house.

Skyform within the Renewables Environment - REMOVE?

The returns gained from our Specialist Division allowed us to invest heavily in our Access Division. Skyform have a fully equipped workshop complete with Qualified Engineers who are experienced in the maintenance and commissioning of lifting equipment. From this we became involved with a Belgian company Skyman International and were invited to send our operatives to Belgium to train as towerhoist engineers for their H400 Towerhoist, which is now, located within 1300 wind turbines in the UK and Ireland Onshore and Offshore. We were only chosen to do this due to our competence in Access Systems and our reputation being such of compliance and quality.

From that point till now we have been delighted with the progress that our access division has had in the renewable energy industry. Siemens PLC have contracted us to service, commission and overhaul all Skyman Towerhoists throughout the UK. We believe this decision was, in part, due to a specifically designed database system which takes all of the responsibility for service scheduling out of the hands of the client. The database reduces the workload significantly for our client and they are delighted we have made this investment.

We have been providing this service to SWP (Siemens Wind Power) since 2008 and they have been delighted with our input and added value to date. We continue to have a very close working relationship with Siemens which we believe to be flourishing and we are now being approached to perform additional works on the WTG’s. The current scope of works is to service and maintain all SWP/Skyman Towerhoists throughout the UK, Ireland and offshore. During this exciting time in the renewable energy industry we believe the potential for continued growth looks very positive.

In reference to the above, the manufacturer of the Towerhoist has approved service companies throughout the world, with Skyform being the only one for the UK and Ireland. We are glad to announce that they are using Skyforms procedures as a template to roll out to its distributors worldwide.

Skyform have a dedicated Training Centre in Glasgow, and an additional Training Centre within the SWP Newcastle Training facility in which we train hundreds of contractors and operatives per year on the safe use and troubleshooting of the Wind Turbine ‘Towerhoist’.

At this present moment in time, 2014, Skyform are delivering servicing to around 30 Wind Farm sites throughout the UK on 6 monthly frequencies.
